An evening of sublime kirtan & bhajans (devotional ballads) interspersed with deep raga and dhrupad singing. Experience Sheela Bringi’s Indian vocals, bansuri flute and lush harp strings, in a special duet with exquisite bhajan & dhrupad singer Ullas Fowler. Joining them will be: classical tabla player Pavan Kalasikam, bassist Brent Kuecker and special guests.

Sheela Bringi is a sacred music artist whose lush Indian vocals, soaring bansuri flute and harp have graced 30+ new age and world records, including the recent Grammy-nominated “Bhakti Without Borders” by Madi Das. She has released two albums as a solo artist (Shakti Sutra and Incantations), and her work to bridge the musical worlds of India and America has been profiled by NBC News, NPR, Public Radio International, Yoga Journal, and others. Sheela has extensive training in both North Indian classical and Western musical traditions, and past teachers include Indian maestros Pt. G.S. Sachdev and Ust. Aashish Khan, and Western contemporary greats such as Cecil Taylor and Meredith Monk. She currently studies Hindustani voice with Sri Subhashish Mukhopadyay (one of the topmost exponents of the “Kotali Gharana”). Sheela tours internationally and has collaborated with artists including Idan Raichel, Karsh Kale, DJ Drez, Dave Stringer and many others. She is currently based in Boulder, CO, where she teaches Indian Devotional & Raga Singing at Naropa University, and around the world. www.shebrings.com.
Ullas has been leading kirtan and bhajan for the last 20 years under the guidance of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi and her senior disciples. He has performed at Bhakti Fest, numerous yoga studios, has opened up for Krishna Das & Bhagavad Das, and has performed with the Kirtaniyas, Wah! and Mukti. He has recently been seen at the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, the Amma Center of New Mexico and at the Parliament of World Religions in Salt Lake City Utah. A student of both Hindustani and Carnatic styles, Ullas has spent the last year studying Dhrupad under the guidance of the world famous Gundecha Brothers.
Pavan Kalasikam is a classical tablist from Hyderabad, India. He began performing on stage since the age of five. Pavan is trained under the guidance of Ustad Najmuddin Qadri, Sri Shesha Chelapati, and his mother Smt. Jayasri Kalasikam. He has taught tabla to students in India and worked professionally with both Hindustani and Carnatic musicians and composers. After moving to the United States, Pavan continues to perform with artists who represent different genres including classical, ghazal, flamenco and bollywood music. Most recently he studied with Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan. Pavan lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Brent Kuecker has played bass for Indian devotional music for 15 years and has toured internationally with artists including Shantala, Dave Stringer and Sheela Bringi.
