Complementing the exhibition Princely Traditions and Colonial Pursuits in India, tabla artist Robin Sukhadia presents a free multimedia lecture on Lagaan, the 2001 Academy Award-nominated Bollywood film. Through film clips and musical excerpts, he will address Bollywood’s recent history and Lagaan’s relevance to India’s post-colonial narratives. Following the lecture, SADUBAS, a duo consisting of Robin Sukhadia and DJ Ameet Mehta, will perform music inspired by A.R. Rahman’s spectacular soundtrack for the film. Special guest Sheela Bringi will join them on bansuri (bamboo flute).

Robin Sukhadia holds an MFA in world music from the California Institute of the Arts, and has been studying tabla under Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri for the past 11 years. In 2010, he was awarded a Fulbright Senior Research Award to expand his work with music education in India.
